Our Practice at Podium

Podium Sports Medicine is a unique medical practice, focusing on the health and performance of athletes and active individuals.  Much of healthcare is dedicated to the treatment of disease, a noble pursuit.  However, at Podium, we strive to prevent disease and foster a level of health and vitality which allows for optimal individual performance.  The body of evidence that is the basis for Sports Medicine and Exercise Science is distinctly positioned to aid in the pursuit of this objective.  Though many of our patients are elite athletes, they are not the only ones interested in improving the execution of daily tasks, be they physical or mental.

experience individualized medical care, redefined.

Dr. Kevin Sprouse works with a limited number of patients, employing a retainer-based practice model.  This allows for an extremely personal level of care that is critical to helping patients achieve their health and performance goals.

Providing globally-recognized expertise for athletes and active individuals.

what is “retainer” medicine?

Patients in retainer-based medical practices pay a monthly or annual fee to avail themselves of the services and relationships offered by these practices. At Podium, we believe that this model is the best way to achieve and maintain open lines of communications that foster highly personalized relationships to deliver optimal results. We feel that this offers patients the highest likelihood of success when addressing their health and performance goals.

are one-time consultations available?

Very rarely, patients may seek one-time consultations with Dr. Sprouse outside of a retainer relationship. For further information, please give us a call.

Patients at Podium enjoy individualized programs, tailored to their specific ambitions.  These programs are led cooperatively by Dr. Sprouse and the staff at Podium, utilizing cutting-edge technology to regularly measure progress and redirect when needed.  Though not all programs are the same, patients can expect to use some of these tools to ensure they are moving toward their ultimate goals:

  • Blood Tests: comprehensive panels of blood work, tested at least twice per year using one of hundreds of lab locations nationwide.

  • Metabolic Testing: using lactate and VO2 testing to evaluate not only fitness, but also metabolic health.

  • Specialist consults arranged when warranted. Dr. Sprouse will maintain close communication with patient’s specialists, even attending appointments with patients when feasible. Patients benefit from Dr. Sprouse’s association with experts across the US and around the world.

  • Body composition testing with BodPod or DEXA technology (depending on patient’s location).

  • Use of a customized online dashboard and app which allows for tracking of key health and performance metrics.

  • Oura Ring to measure sleep, stress, and daily recovery.

  • Wirelessly connected scales and blood pressure cuffs.

  • Nutrition tracking tools which are connected to our practice and your personalized health dashboard.

  • Ongoing personal contact with Dr. Sprouse and the Podium team via a secure text messaging platform and dedicated phone numbers.

What Is Podium…and What Isn’t It?

Retainer Medicine at Podium Is…

  • Highly personalized, taking into account your individual goals.

  • Your source for medical consultation on all things sports, fitness, wellness and performance.

  • Available to you with an exceptionally quick response time, even after-hours.

Retainer Medicine at Podium Isn’t…

  • We are NOT a coaching practice. We will not create a training plan for you.

  • Podium is NOT a primary care practice. We recommend you maintain your relationship with your PCP, and we are happy to maintain open communication with your primary doctor.

  • We are NOT available 24/7. We sleep. We travel. We hang out with our families. And sometimes we’re outside exercising or playing. Podium is not an emergency service.
